K.V.KAMAT - A Success Story

# In 1971, he joined ICICI (an Indian financial institution) in the Project Finance Division that later founded ICICI Bank and merged with it is 2001.

# Before becoming the Chief Executive Office and Managing Director in 1996 of ICICI Bank, he shifted to the Asian development Bank, Manila in 1988 and he was involved in various projects in China, India, Indonesia, Philippines, Bangladesh and Vietnam.

# Currently, he is the Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer of ICICI Bank; which is India's second largest bank.

# He was born on December 02, 1947; he is currently living in Mumbai, is married and has a son and a daughter.

# He completed his schooling from St. Aloysius School, Karnataka; his Bachelors degree in Mechanical Engineering from National Institute of Technology, Karnataka; and his Master's in Business Administration from Indian Institute of Management, Ahmedabad.

# He initiated and implemented ICICI's computerisation programme; over the years he diversified their business across banking, insurance, asset management in India and he expanded the corporate business by catering the needs of corporate and retail customers

# In 2008, he received Padma Bhushan.

# He was awarded "Businessman of the Year" by Forbes Asia.

# The Economic Times conferred him "Business Leader of the Year" in 2007.

# He received Business Standard "Banker of the Year" award.

# In 2006, CNBC-TV18 awarded him "Outstanding Business Leader of the Year."

# He received "Most e-savvy CEO amongst Asian banks" by The Asian Banker Journal of Singapore.

# He was recognised as "Finance Man of the Year award" by The Mumbai Management Association.

# The World HRD Congress rewarded him "Best CEO for Innovative HR practices".

# He conferred Business India's "Businessman of the Year" award in 2005.

# Was recognised by CNBC as "Asian Business Leader of the Year" in 2001.

# The Banaras Hindu University conferred him with an honorary PhD.

# Mr. Kamath is a member of the governing board on various educational institutions including Indian Institute of Management (IIM) - Ahmedabad, Indian School of Business (ISB), National Institute of Bank Management and Manipal Academy of Higher Education.

# He is a member of the National Council of Confederation of Indian Industry (CII).

# His success mantra in life is, "When your back is against the wall, you think beyond your normal boundaries."
